Kim Johnson is a Registered Nurse who received her Associate Degree from Meridian Community College and Bachelor's Degree from Mississippi University for Women. She has been a nurse for 21 years and a teacher for 16 years.

This is the student organization that accompanies Health Sciences. Local HOSA chapters provide programs and activities to help individuals develop their physical, mental, and social well being. Members strengthen their leadership and citizenship abilities through interaction with professional, business and other student organizations. HOSA members have the opportunity to share experiences with other people involved in health occupations. Members build confidence in their own ability to develop skills that will lead to successful employment in the field of health. The first course of the secondary health science program introduced the student to careers available in the health field, basic anatomy and physiology, and basic patient care skills. Upon completion of this first year introductory course, the student will be trained to be an entry-level general basic health care assistant and trained in CPR and first aid. The student will be able to make an informed choice of a health occupation that he/she plans to pursue. This course is taught for one year, and it earns 2.0 Carnegie Units.
The emphasis of the second year is primarily to expose students to advanced skills in the various health occupations and the basic health care sciences. Students may participate in shadowing experiences in selected health facilities. Upon completion of the second year advanced course, the student will be trained to work as an entry-level assistant in various health occupations and will be certified in CPR at the health care provider level. This course is taught for one year, and it earns 2.0 Carnegie Units.
Health Sciences includes a minimum of 100 hours of clinical-type experience over the two year period. This clinical-type experience can include tours of health care facilities, guest speakers, laboratory practice/demonstration in the classroom, and observation experiences in medical facilities.
